a) Newton's second law of motion states that force is directly proportional to the rate of change of momentum.

F = ma

b) The law of conservation of momentum states that the total momentum of an isolated system remains constant. Momentum is therefore said to be conserved over time; i.e, it can neither be created nor destroyed, only transformed or transferred from one form to another.
