The Amazon river is the second longest river in the world and is the most important river of South America. In terms of size and water carried is the largest river in the world. It flows through the tropical region. The tropical region lies very close to the equator. It extends from 10 degree north to 10 degree south latitudes. It originates from the Andes mountains in Peru. It flows eastward across Brazil and on its way join many tributaries. The Amazon river basin holds 20% of the earths freshwater.
