The Annapurna Scheme has been launched with effect from 1st April, 2000. It aims at providing food security to meet the requirement of those senior citizens who, though eligible, have remained uncovered under the National Old Age Pension Scheme(NOAPS).

Annapurna Scheme (APS) has been launched in April, 2000. It aims at providing food security to meet the requirements of senior citizens who remained uncovered under other scheme.
It is the scheme for the indigent senior citizen. It provides 10 kg of food grains free of cost per month to senior citizens who are not receiving any pension or have any other source of income.
