1. The Cholas had an extremely well organized administration.

2. Land revenue system was carefully structured and all lands were meticulously surveyed and classified for assessment of revenue. The temples were exempted from tax and other tolls such as on goods transported from place to place was levied. The system was called puravuvarithinaikkalam.

3. The empire was divided into mandalams, and each mandalam into valanadus and nadus. The valanadus were under a periyanattar and the nadus under a nattar. This hierarchical system ensured good management.

4. The royal military force of the Cholas called kaikkolaperumpadai consisted of elephants, cavalry, infantry and navy. Over 70 regiments of the military were spread across the empire

The Chola administration is in there parts:-
1) Central government:-The king was the most important person in the Chola administration as allauthority was vested in him. He has a council of ministers to advise him. The central government looked after the external defence, internal peace and order, promotion of general prosperity and cultural progress of the empire.
2) Provincial government:-the Chola empire was divided into mandalams. These were further divided into valanadu and nadu.
3) Local self government:- Cholas were good administrators and believed in Local self government. These villages had three types of village assemblies namely ur, sabha and nagaram. The temple in the Chola Kingdom was a centre of social activity. It was not only a place of worship, but was also a place where people gathered together. The temples were also the biggest employersafter the state, providing work and means of livelihood to a large no. of people. The temples used to take care of the welfare of its workers by providing food, clothing and housing facilities. Temples were also the centre of education.
