A city is a large human settlement.[4][5]Cities generally have extensive systems for housing, transportation, sanitation, utilities, land use, and communication. Their density facilitates interaction between people, government organizations and businesses, sometimes benefiting different parties in the process.

Historically, city-dwellers have been a small proportion of humanity overall, but following two centuries of unprecedented and rapid urbanization, roughly half of the world populationnow lives in cities, which has had profound consequences for global sustainability.[6] Present-day cities usually form the core of larger metropolitan areas and urban areas—creating numerous commuters traveling towards city centers for employment, entertainment, and edification. However, in a world of intensifying globalization, all cities are in different degree also connected globally beyond these regions.

CITIES-Convention on international trade in endangered species of flora and fauna. It is an international agreement between government of different countries signed on 3rd March 1973

Its aim to ensure that international trade in specimen of wildlife animals and plants doesn't threaten their survival. CITIES protect approximately 5000 species of animals and 28,000 species of plants against over exploitation through international trade

The major reason that contributed to the signing of this convention was the large scale killing of elephants for their tusks, Rhinoceros for horns, tigers for their skin and over exploitation of fish and plants resources by illegal trades to obtain large scale profits in international market.

The worst case was in poverty stricken Africa, where elephants were poached to such an extent that the number of elephants came down drastically. However, poaching of elephants was reduced greatly because of international pressure and decision of CITIES to ban ivory scale at a meet in Lausanne in 1989
