Gandhiji proposed 11 demands on January 31, 1930 in front of Lord Irwin. But none of them was paid heed to. So Gandhiji decided to start the civil disobedience movement. Gandhiji started a march from him ashram which is in Sabarmati to Dandi, which is a coastal plain. He alongwith his 78 trustful companions, covered 240 miles in 24 days. Then, on 6 April, 1930 he himself broke the salt law and that marked the beginning of civil disobedience movement.
