Dhirubhai Ambani was a great industrialist of India, who achieved greatness with his innovative ideas, determination, willpower and hardwork.
Dhirubhai Ambani was born to a school teacher on 28 December 1932, near Chorvad, situated in Gujarat.
In the year 1949, Dhirubhai proceeded to Aden to work with Shell oil agents. After working with them for a few years, Dhirubhai returned back to Mumbai and established Reliance Commercial Corporation with capital of Rs. 15,000 and began to export spices to the west Asian countries.
From the years 1958 to 1965, he did flourishing business in export of spices and thereafter, in the year 1966 shifted to textiles.
Slowly and gradually he took his Reliance Group to the top of Industrial map. In the year 1993, Reliance became India’s largest private sector company of rupees. Thereafter Dhirubhai set up the 25,000 crore Jamnagar Petrochemicals Complex and Reliance turned the largest refinery of the world in the year 1998.
In the year 2002, Reliance got government’s 20 percent stake in IPCL, that is the second largest petrochemicals company of India.
After his death on 6 July2002 the Reliance group was splitted into two parts in the year 2005, and got divided between his two sons—Mukesh Ambani and Anil Ambani.
