Answer:

The cycle of energy is based on the flow of energy through different trophic levels in an ecosystem. Our ecosystem is maintained by the cycling energy and nutrients obtained from different external sources. ... The herbivores at the second trophic level, use the plants as food which gives them energy.

what is an ecosystem?

An Ecosystem refers to a system that includes all living organisms ( Biotic factors) such as plants, animals, microorganisms etc in a habitat as well as its physical environment ( Abiotic factors) such as weather, soil, earth, sun, climate, rocks minerals etc, functioning together as a unit.

Flow of energy in an ecosystem:

  • energy is not created in the ecosystem, it is only converted from 1 form to another.

  • On an average about 1% of the sun's energy falling on the leaves is used by the plants in the process of photosynthesis ans stored as good.

  • there is a continuous transfer of food from 1 trophic level to the next trophic level of organisms in a food chain.

  • at each trophic level, some energy is utilised for their metabolic activites like respiration, excretion and growth.

  • According to the 10% LAW (stated by Raymond Lindeman) - only 10% of energy entering a particular level of trophic level is available for transfer to the next higher trophic level.

Hope this helps you!!
