A group of three cells in the seven-celled embryo sac of an angiosperm (flowering plant) consisting of the egg cell and two associated cells called synergids. The egg apparatus is located at the end of the embryo sac closer to the micropyle.

  • There are two types of plant species on the basic of primitivity of the reproductive structures (flowering or mom-flowering), which are Gymnosperms and Angiosperms.  
  • The egg apparatus is an integral part of the reproductive system in angiospermic species.
  • There is an embryo sac present in the reproductive system which is made up of seven cells.
  • This embryo sac contains a group of three cells of which one is the egg cell and two are the associated cells which are called synergids.
  • This group of three cells together is called an egg apparatus.
