Answer:

Explanation:

1. Havelis were grand mansions in which Mughal aristocracy lived in in 17th and 18th century.

2. A haveli housed many families. On entering the haveli through a beautiful gateway, there was an open courtyard which was surrounded by public rooms. These public rooms were meant for visitors and businesses, used exclusively by males.

3. The inner courtyard with its pavilions and rooms was meant for women of the household. Rooms in havelis had multiple uses and very little furniture.

4. The havelis began to decline as the Mughal amirs found it difficult to maintain them under the conditions of British rule.

5. Some Havelis were subdivided and sold. Some were taken over by the upcoming mercantile class while many fell into decay.
