  • The Indian drainage system consists of the two river systems as the Ganga and the peninsular rivers. The Himalayan river are of the older or the antecedent order and others are non-antecedent order or the younger. hile the peninsular is the east ad the west-flowing rivers.
  • These Himalayan rivers have existed even before the Himalayas were even been formed. The rivers originated in Tibet and mainly includes the Ganga, Brahmaputra and the Indus river systems.
  • The Ganga river system is a combination of the Bhagirathi, Alaknanda that meets at Devprayag that originated from Gangotri glacier in Uttarakhand.  
  • Followed by the Indus rover systems that have it tributaries as Jhelum, Chenab, Rabi, Beas, Sutlej, found at an altitude of 4,164 km in Kalish mountains. They are  3600 km in length i.e the longest in the world.
  • Brahmaputra river system is one of the longest in the world with regards to the volume of water and originates from the Chemayungdung glacier in the Kailash range.
