Nucleus :- The nucleaus contains chromosomes, which looks as  rod-                             shaped structures only when cell is about to divide.                                        Chromosomes contain information for inheritance of feature from                    parents to offsprings in the form of DNA (Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid)                   molecules. Chromosomes are made up of DNA and protein. DNA                  molecules contain the information essential for construction and                     organising cells. Functional segments of DNA are known as genes.                Nucleus contains a double layer membrane known as nuclear                       membrane. It separates  nucleus from the cytoplasm. It has pores                  known as nuclear pores which allow the transfer of material from                   inside the nucleus to the cytoplasm.

Hi friend,

Nucleus is a small spherical or oval structure mostly located in the centre of each cell but plant cell has nucleus on side because it has a large vacuole also.

Nucleus has-:

a) NUCLEAR ENVELOPE-It surrounds the nucleus and forms a double layer called nuclear membrane which is perforated at places called as nuclear pores.

b) NUCLEOPLASM-Everything inside the nuclear membrane.

c) NUCLEOLUS-A spherical body in nucleousplasm.

d) CHROMATIN MATERIAL-These are thread like structures in the nucleus which carry hereditary information. The number of chromosomes are fixed for a particular species like humans have 46 chromosomes in 23 pairs. Chromosomes can be seen rod like only when the cell is about to divide else they are always seen entangled mass of thread like structures.

Chromosomes have genes whuch carry hereditary information from one generation to other and genes has genetic material DNA(dioxy ribonucliec acid).

FUNCTIONS OF NUCLEUS-:
It is the control centre of the cell.It carries hereditary information from one generation to another.

Hope it helped u...............
