The widely spread region of irregular relief on earth surface the height of at least 300 m from the sea level is called the plateau.


Characteristics of plateaus are as follows:


1)Plateau is a widely spread high level region

2) The top of the plateau is either a regular or wavy

3) Steep slanting edge of the plateau meets a plane

4) They look like mountains without peaks

5) Some of the plateau are encircled with mountains

The great plateau -

The triangular landmass located to south from the Great Plains known as the Great Peninsular Plateau. Its northern part is known as Central Highlands. It comprises of the Aravalli Mountains, the Vindhya Mountains and several small plateaus extending from west to east. The Narmada and Tapi rivers, lying to the south of Vindhya range, flow westward into the Arabian sea. The Western Ghats run along the coast of the Arabian Sea. The Eastern Ghats run along the coast of the Bay of Bengal. The entire plateau is rich in minerals.
