Answer:

These Rajputs were known as the agnikula ("fire-race") and were the ancestors of clans such as the Chauhan, Solanki, and Ponwar Rajputs. Other Rajput clans trace their ancestry to the Sun or Moon. Most Rajputs are Hindu. They were known for protecting Hinduism against Buddhism and Islam.

Answer:

The word 'Rajput' comes from the Sanskrit word',Rajaputra' which means son of a king. Historians have different opinions regarding their origin. Some believe that they were descendents of the central Asian tribes settled in India after the Hun invasion. The Rajputs however claimed to be descendents of the Kshatriyas or warrior class of Vedic times. They claimed that they were 'surya-,Vanshi', that is belonging to the sun family or 'Chandra - Vanshi', that is belonging to the moon family. Some Rajput clans also considered themselves to be part of the fire family (agni- kula). They believed that they were born out of a sacrificial fire.
