Narmada River is originated from Narmada Kund, Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh and merges into the Arabian Sea near Gujarat after travelling a distance of 1312 km. The Narmada, the largest west flowing river of the Peninsula, rises near Amarkantak range of mountains in Madhya Pradesh. Its basin extends over states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. drains into the Arabian Sea through the Gulf of Khambhat. The major part of the basin is covered with agriculture.
