Explanation:
Popularly known as General Gospel on social truth, in couplet form, by a philosopher of India. As settlement system of human life become a norm in various parts of the world, human societies faced a problem, i.e., issues of harmonious co-existence among the competing human social groups in addition to existing competition among the human social group itself. This has necessitated a huge set of guidelines, some like values, some like norms, and some like customs. They majorly govern the human relationships for the peaceful harmonious co-existence. If it happens in the name of god, it has taken the religious form. But some are like Thirukural- General Gospel of truth; has been told without the name of god, but definitely with blessings of God.
In ancient times, Greece & Rome has developed philosophical approach on previously mentioned problems between 5th BC – 1st AD where as in East, religious approach to this problem has come. Throughout Indian subcontinent Vedas, Upanishads have thrown one of the great philosophies albeit in the name of God. But in southern tip of India, either by one saint (named Valluvar) or by many people of same intellect caliber has brought this gospel of truth to this world, for governing the all form of social relationship men & men, King & subject, King & ministers, men & women etc. It is important to note that, Vedas speak of relationship of Athma & Brahma, or the peace & tranquility of self-whereas kural speaks of relationship of men & men for the peace & tranquility of the society. These are definitely the two dimensions of life.
First dimension of life needs second one and second dimension can’t happen without the first dimension. In this background let us see, some of the couplets out of total 1330 couplets in 3 groups – Dharma (Aram), Governance (Porul), Kama (Inbam) which has the most relevance today. I have always taken G.U.Pope translation as base for discussing each chapter. I submit my reverence for this first complete translation of Thirukural into English about 100 years back.

Answer:
The Tirukkural is a classic Tamil language text consisting of 1,330 couplets or Kurals. The text is divided into three books, each with aphoristic teachings on virtue (aram, dharma), wealth (porul, artha) and love (inbam, kama). Considered one of the greatest works on ethics and morality, it is known for its universality and secular nature. Its authorship is traditionally attributed to Valluvar, also known in full as Thiruvalluvar. The text has been dated variously from 300 BCE to 5th century CE. The traditional accounts describe it as the last work of the third Sangam, but linguistic analysis suggests a later date of 450 to 500 CE and that it was composed after the Sangam period.
