Midday meal scheme is programme which serves cooked food to many government schools in India. It was first used in Tamil Nadu in 2001. This was started basically to prevent children from going home for food and not coming back. Parents took it as an advantage for them as they would not have to cook food for their children. This improved the daily attendance of children in govt. schools.
