Once upon a time there lived a very poor wood-cutter in a small village by a river. He went to the riverside and cut wood and sold them in market everyday. One day while cutting the trees, his iron axe slipped and fell into the river by chance. He became depressed for this incident. It was the only axe he had and without an axe he cannot cut trees. He had not much money to buy a new one. He began to weep, " Oh, God. How do I live now? How will I earn money ? What will happen to my family ?"

After sometime, the River God appeared with a golden axe and asked the wood-cutter, "Don't cry. Take this axe. Maybe it is the axe you lost." The wood cutter denied to take it and told that it was not the axe fallen in river. "That was an iron axe",he said.

With his honesty, the River God was pleased with him and gave back his own axe and rewarded him the golden axe. The wood cutter took them with a great satisfaction.
