Sameer was eagerly waiting for a letter since morning. Suddenly, the door bell rang and he could see the silhouette of the postman against the glass pane on the door. He rushed to get the mail and sure enough, the postman handed him a yellow envelope. He knew it was the call letter to appear for the final interview the next day, at Excellence Group of Companies, office at Maloub. He had waited all these days and was slowly giving up hope, even though the secretary at the office had mentioned, that the final interview will be held on 15 November and he would get a call letter if selected. He had done his initial interview well and it was his dream job, even though the work place would be the remotely located Maloub.
Sameer tried frantically to get air ticket to Ransi, as that was the only way he could reach in time for the interview. He wished, if only the letter had reached a day earlier. He had exhausted all options and was totally dejected. His dad consoled him saying, if that was destiny, it is better not to go and to inform the company. That night, Sameer went sleep, crestfallen.
The next day his dad shook him awake and held out the newspaper in front of his face. ‘Air crash kills 67… an Air Banga flight to Ransi…’ the headlines screamed. Ransi was the nearest airport to Maloub and that was the flight he would have taken, had he got the ticket!
