•Mysore is a great place of historical importance.

•By air,the nearest major airport to Mysore is the Bangalore International Airport or one can take buses from Bangalore to reach Mysore .

•Tourists can stay in various resorts and hotels in Mysore which is not very expensive though .

•This place is very well known for its historical importance .

•In the past , many well known kingdoms like pallavas,kadambas have ruled here.

•The famous Mysore palace is the residence of Wadiyar dynasty and is a famous tourist attraction.

•The Hoysalas built the Chamundeshwari temple in Mysore and even today it is one of the major tourist attractions found in Mysore .

•Mysore is known as " City of palaces" because there are almost like seven places in Mysore.

•There are many shopping attractions here like majorly in Devraja Urs road ..you can buy a lot of things and there are many malls in Mysore ..like forum mall and others .

•In a whole,Mysore is a good place to visit .

How to go there?

The Victoria Memorial is located at the heart of the city. It can be easily accessed by road or the tube rail. The nearest Metro Station is 'Maidan'.

There are various types of Hotels to reside in. For five star accommodation the Oberoi Grand and Hotel Hindustan are the nearest.

Historical importance

It was built in In January 1901, to commemorate the death of the British Empress Queen Victoria.

Built with the same Makrana marble as the Taj Mahal the Victoria Memorial is the Bristishers' display of their architectural skills in contrast to the great Mughal Architecture.

The Prince of Wales, later the King George V, laid the foundation stone on 4 th January 1906. It was formally opened to the public in 1921.

Shopping attractions

Kolkata is the shoppers' paradise. The New Market is just two metro stations away. Gariahat, the shopping hub of Kolkata is a fifteen minute cab ride from the Victoria Memorial .

Other attractions

There are many tourist attractions near the Victoria Memorial . There is the famous St. Paul's Cathedral, the Birla Planetarium, the great Indian Museum very near the Memorial.

One can avail a royal tonga ride around Victoria. In the evening there is a beautiful light and sound show at the Memorial.

For dinner one can go to the river side which is very near the Memorial and dine at the river resorts like Floatel right in the middle of the Hooghly river and enjoy the picturesque view of the river along with the Howrah Bridge.
