The basic principles and laws of a nation, state, or social group that determine the powers and duties of the government and guarantee certain rights to the people in it is called Constitution.

We need a constitution because we need a government to protect our natural rights to life, liberty, and property. The constitution is the fundamental law within which the government must operate.

We need protection from bad people such as murderers, oppressors, dictators, corrupt people, thieves, robbers, burglars, fraudsters, etc. and this is why we must have a government. We need a constitution. The constitution provides a set of written rules that is authorized, and approved by the people. The constitution sets out the rules under which the government is to operate. It is important to remember that the government must protect our natural rights to life, liberty, and property in accordance only with the written constitution. In this view, the constitution creates the government; provides powers to the created government; and limits these government powers.

The government must have powers to do its job to protect life, liberty, and property. These powers are written and specified in the constitution. The government must have the following powers:

1. makes laws;

2. implements these laws; and

3. referees if there are disagreements in interpreting the laws.

In republican democracies, such as we have in the Philippines, these 3 powers are assigned to 3 distinct and different bodies of government as one of the rules to limit the powers of the government. These powers are called:

1. Legislative (Congress) - makes laws;

2. Executive (President) - implements these laws;

3. Judiciary (Supreme Court) - referees if there are disagreements in interpreting the laws.

Indian Constitution is one of the longest of all the Constitutions in the world.

And the reason is simple.

It had to do and manage much more than any other nation state in the history of mankind had ever done .

It was almost like having a constitution for the entire Europe. A land as diverse as ours needed a document that had derived from the collective wisdom of the entire world.

Therefore Indian constitution has taken provisions from many other constitutions of the world. A short list of the features taken from othet constitution is as follows-

Republic-French Constitution.

Parliamentary form- British Constitution

Single Citizenship-British Constitution

Fundamental Rights-USA Constitution

Amendment Provision-South African Constitution

Concurrent List-Australian Constitution

Provisions related to Trade and Commerce-Australian Constitution

Emergency provision-Germany

Federalism-Canada

Fundamental Duties-Ireland and Japan

And many more.

So basically Indian Constitution makers picked the best practices from all over the world and stitched them together so that it could match the social fabric of India.

All these provisions are time tested across the various social and economic setups.

So asking why are we following a constitution that was written 67 years ago is almost equivalent to asking as to why are we following the 1000 year old tradition of bathing in the morning and sleeping in the night. Certain things have acquired the status of gospel truth. Because, years and years of experiments in certain fields have led to saturation of wisdom in those field. Such as the self government or democracy.

Now it is almost universally accepted that democracy is the best form of Govt. (With some reservations of course).

Besides ever since the constitution was accepted, it has undergone more than 100 amendments. So it not exactly the same constitution that was written 67 years ago.

Many important amendments have taken place since.

Reservation in promotion- 16(4)A

Anti defection law- Schedule 10

Panchayati raj and Municipal Bodies-Schedule 11 and 12

Insertion of words Secular and Socialist in Constitution preamble.

Insertion of many new Directive principles 39A, 43A, 43B, 48A.

Besides Supreme Court by its judgments in many landmark cases such as Keshwanand Bharati, Menaka Gandhi, Minerva Mills and many more has -

Widened the scope of Fundamental Rights.

Resticted the power of Executive and Legislature to curtail these rights.

In fact, in some cases even beyond the point, that was in contemplation of Constitution makers.

So, we are following Constitution that was written 67 years ago with many modern adaptations. Many more to come. As I write this answer many amendments of constitution are in the process of discussion and drafting.

THANKS [FOLLOW YOUR CONSTITUTION]

For anyone who has to give a speech, one of the first questions that usually comes to mind is, “How many words is that going to be?” The problem is there is no set answer to this question. The number of words needed for a speech will depend heavily on the person giving the speech.
Some people speak slowly when giving a speech while others speak quickly. Those who speak quickly will need to write more words for each minute of their speech than those who speak at a slower pace. That being said, there are some general guidelines which can help you make an educated guess at approximately how many words will be needed for a speech.

The general rule for speech giving is 100 to 200 words per minute. With this in mind, a 10-minute speech would require 1,000 to 2,000 words. The WordCounter speaking time detail defaults 150 words per minute (an average speed which would give a result of 1,500 words, as this is the recommended speed for audiobooks to be read at for best listening), but you can use the options section to adjust to a slower or faster pace. Simply click on “Options” then the “Details” tab and then the wrench next to the “Speaking Time” button.

If want to know how many words per minute (WPM) you personally say when giving a speech, you can use a timer to time yourself, then input that number into the options section. Time yourself for one minute of your speech, then copy to where you made it into WordCounter to see how many words you speak per minute. This will give you a more accurate estimate of how many words you must write for however long the speech you need to make will be.

It’s important to remember that speech patterns can increase when a person is nervous. This means that even when determining the number of words needed for a 10-minute speech when practicing at home by yourself, you may actually need more during the actual speech if you get nervous.

While the number of words in a speech will depend heavily on how fast or slow the person giving the speech speaks, for those who are looking for a basic estimate of how many words would be in a speech, you can use the following estimates. These estimates use the average speaking pace of 150 words per minute to estimate.
