I stared at my name in the newspaper headline. I could barely believe I had topped in the city in the final 10th class results declared by board. I did not have the least idea that hard-work and self-discipline could produce results so fast!
Last year I had barely managed to pass the final exams. My father and mother had got quite upset. They had pinned high hopes on me. They wanted to see me do well in my academics and career! But my carelessness and bad habits had disappointed them.
However, I decided to turn a new leaf. I promised to myself I would work very hard to improve his grades. I just followed the basics. I did not waste my single moment in useless distractions. I just studied, studied, and studied. I made a time table, and conscientiously stuck to it. I burnt not only the midnight oil, but the early morning oil also. At school I stayed focused all the time. I did not watch TV at all. Thus working I realized, if a student utilizes his time optimally, he/she can do wonders. TV, friends, and loafing around are the greatest enemies of all the students. I realized studies are not difficult at all; developing the right attitude to studies, and focusing our mind on studies is difficult. Hard work really pays off and that too with huge dividends.
As a result I had topped in all the subjects in the final Exams. Not only my parents, all the teachers and praised me and congratulated me!
