- Title :- Presence of Mind of a Small Boy
It was in a village of Nalbari in Assam. The village was full of thatched houses and the houses were closely set. One summer afternoon, at about 2:30 PM, a house catches fire. The fire broke out from the kitchen of the house. As the flames and smoke engulfed the area, there arose a hue and cry. People in the neighborhood became very panic and rushed out from their houses. They all tried their best to put out the fire, but it resulted nothing. Some people poured water into it while some others threw sand, stones etc. in order to contain the fire. But all their efforts went in vain as the fire began to spread rapidly and the people became nervous as well as helpless. The people unabled to contain the fire and was very frightened.
In the mean time, Rubul, a 10 years old small boy was returning from his school. He noticed the fire broke out in his own locality. Rubul was a prudent and intelligent boy. At once, he rushed to a neighbour's house who had a telephone. He knew the helpline number of the fire brigade office. He entered the house, took the house owner's permission; then quickly he dialed the number and called for help. Within 15 minutes, the fire brigade arrived at the spoy and the fire was contained and finally extinguished. People heaved a sigh of relief. They soon came to know that how the small boy had called the fire brigade for help. Everyone praised Rubul's courage. That day, his presence of mind averted a worst disaster.
