Answer:
It was a new year and also ten years since I got a second chance at life. At age five, I had a rare kidney disease that was on the verge of destroying my last kidney, after I lost the first one two years prior. Over the years, I had thought so hard about the man who saved my life by donating his kidney. I never got to meet him and although I started searching for him soon after recovery, all the leads I got managed to be dead ends. I needed to thank him and I was not going to rest until I had the opportunity to do so. The donor process at Tapion Hospital was anonymous and so, I had no information.
My fifteenth birthday was on the 28th and I was preparing to have a very quiet one with just family and close friends. As I sat in my room thinking about my life, the phone rang.
“Chelsy, we need to talk.” My cousin Keysha said excitedly.
“Okay, can you come over?” I asked.
“I’m leaving work in ten minutes. I will see you then.” She said.
Keysha was a nurse at Tapion Hospital for the past seven years.
As I waited for her to arrive, I wondered what it was that she was so anxious to speak to me about. Half an hour later, she rushed into my room, closing and locking the door behind her.
“Chels, you would not believe what I came across today.” She said as she reaches into her bag and pulls out some papers.

It was a completed form with biographical information on Jacob Lawrence. I was still puzzled because I did not know who he was. I continued to scan the document until I got to the last page with a section that read “The donor, Jacob Lawrence acknowledges and agrees that, through the procedure of surgery with the use of Jacob Lawrence's kidney, Chelsy Johnson will receive this organ anonymously...”
