Lencho, a farmer, who is the protagonist of the story, writes a letter to God. In the letter, he seeks help from the Almighty as he discovers his entire crop yield has been destroyed by a devastating hailstorm. Although his wishes get fulfilled partially, if not completely, he remains ungrateful in the end. Moreover, he questions the honesty and modesty of the post-masters. However, these were the only beings who actually helped him with money (anonymously) in the name of God.
Lencho was a dedicated farmer. He was expecting a decent harvest. However, to his grief, a hail storm came and destroyed his harvest completely. Lencho was very sad. However, he had a strong belief in God. He was certain that God would help him. Also, he was an extremely straightforward man. Although working for a long time on the farm, he knew writing. Thus, he composed a letter to God. In the letter, he asked God to send him one hundred pesos. At that point, he went to the post office and put his letter into the post box.
The postman removed the letter from the letter-box. He read the address on it and laughed very much. Also, he rushed to the postmaster and demonstrated to him that strange letter. Moreover, the postmaster also laughed in the same way when he saw the address of God. However, on reading the letter, he got very serious. He lauded this man who had unquestioned faith in God and decided to help him in terms of money. He asked the employees of the post office to give charity. Moreover, he gave a part of-of his salary too. However, they were able to collect only a little more than 50 pesos as requested for by Lencho. The postmaster put the money in an envelope. It was addressed to Lencho.

- Lencho's crops need rain - His crops needed a shower of rain, so that there will be a good harvest. He looks at his wife and says that there will be rain soon.
- The hailstorm - The rain started. He was happy and the raindrops were new coins for him. Suddenly, the wind turned into a storm and heavy hailstones started falling. He thought that it would get over soon but it destroyed the whole crop and his hope also. He thought that his family will starve the whole year. His soul was filled with sorrow.
- Letter to God - He thought that only God can help him. He has great faith on God. He decided to write a letter to God. He believed that God will surely help him. He addresses the letter to God and writes, "God. If you don't help me, my family and I will go hungry this year." He requested God to send him 100 pesos. He also tells how his crops were destroyed by the hailstorm. After writing, he puts it in the envelope, affixes a stamp on it, and places it in the mailbox.
- Letter received by the postmaster - The letter was given to the postmaster in the post office. He laughed at the first moment then he became serious. He was a fat amiable man. He decided to help Lencho. He asked his colleagues to donate some of their money and he also gives some money from his salary. But they were able to collect only 70 pesos. Then he sends the reply to Lencho with money by putting signature, "God" as the sender. He dis not want to shake Lencho's faith in God.
- Lencho's reaction after getting the letter - Lencho was eagerly waiting for his letter. After opening the letter he gets angry. He finds that he has got only 70 pesos out of 100 pesos. He thought that God can not do any mistake, he blames the employes of the post office.
- Another letter by Lencho - He writes another letter and posts it to God. The postmaster reads the letter. Lencho wrote, "God, I have only got 70 pesos, send the rest not through the mail because the members of the post office are a bunch of crooks." It show that he had a great faith on God. He was unaware of the people who helped him. He lacked trust in Human being.
