This poem is told by a British soldier.
The soldier tells his audience that they might talk about beer and gin while they are stationed round there, and partake in small fights, nut they can only lick the boots of "im thats got it".
While other soldiers would lie about in the heat, sweating, they wold call out to Din and call him a heathen. Many soldiers when struck by a bullet and about to die would comment Gunga Din is a better person than him.
