Answer:

Giving students homework every night takes the fun out of learning. Giving homework every night takes away time that they could be doing something with their families or doing something to help with the community. Most teachers that I have asked know the importance of family and that means a lot to them and giving homework every night takes away form that.

Students should indeed not get homework every day because of many reasons. Some such reasons are:

  1. Monotony- Doing homework each day makes life monotonous. After an entire day at school, children do not need more studies. It is essential to let children unwind, because as the proverb goes, all work and no play make Jack a dull boy.
  2. Meaningless- Anything that is overdone loses its effectiveness. Similarly, giving homework every day will change the purpose of the tasks from learning to burdening. As a result, children will find shortcuts to simply get done with it, without any real learning taking place.
  3. Against the development of a well-rounded personality- If children are stuck with homework each day, they won't have the time to explore other venues and develop new hobbies. Consequently, their physical and mental growth will suffer and they  will not develop into well-rounded individuals.
  4. Hinders formation of strong family bonds- When children spend each evening doing their homework, they lose out on the opportunity of spending quality time with their parents. Family bonds begin to be affected. Later in life, it is these strong and loving bonds that serve as reassurance during times of great stress. Children without strong family bonds develop psychological issues. Keeping this aspect in mind, Japan has a no-homework policy in place for the younger learners.
  5. No substantial academic outcome- Researchers have studied the academic performance of children from nations that give homework every day and also from those that do not pay too much emphasis on daily homework. Surprisingly, children from the latter countries, like Finland, do well in academics despite putting in very few hours of homework time.

Conclusion: Homework is not the only way to reinforce concepts and encourage learning. Also, assigning homework every day does not guarantee quality learning. Instead, teachers need to find creative ways of promoting learning.
