SUBJECT : " Conservation of water "

SIR/MAM

We’ve been getting rain these past few days, but it has little effect on the drought. This drought is very serious. According to Governor Brown, “We can’t make it rain, but we can be prepared for the terrible consequences that California’s drought now threatens, including dramatically less water for our farms and communities and increased fire in both urban and rural areas.". This could be California’s biggest drought and we should all be thinking about the problems it’s causing and what we can do to help.

The drought has major effects in California and in Napa. The effects of the drought are obvious when you look around. Many of the reservoirs are drying up, and fires have burned extensive areas. Lakes have lowered more than 50 percent. Agriculture has has a slow and less numerous production due to the drought, according to CNN. CNN says that this is the worst drought in more than 200 years. Although a strong wet system is expected, it is uncertain when it will happen, but we hope it will be soon. Helping use less water is very important in times of drought. We need to also make sure to save water when and where we can.

We need to save water to make sure that we have enough water for our future generations. Tosha Comendant is a conservation scientist who advises the WICC (The Watershed Information Center and Conservancy) Board in Napa. She says that if we don’t stop wasting water, our environment now and in the future will be in big trouble. We should make sure our watersheds are protected so that they will still provide a source of water for our future generations. We need to save water by taking shorter showers, changing our lawns to drought resistant plants, and turning the water off when we are brushing our teeth. Tosha Comendant says that 50 percent of household water waste comes from landscaping, so this is definitely something we can improve on. If we do these simple steps, our future generations will be thankful.

We need to save water because if we don't have enough water our future generations will not survive. Like Governor Brown said, a lack of water will mean a lack of food. "During times of drought, vegetation is visibly dry," the U.S. Geological Survey reports. The lack of food that might happen in the future due to a lack of water is fearful to think about. Those are the main problems from the drought if it continues going on like this.

The California drought is a big problem and it should make us all realize that saving water is critical at this time. If the drought continues at this rate and we don’t change our ways when it comes to water waste, then the future could be a lot different than today’s world. We should try to save water so that everything doesn’t dry up. This would be bad for our future because there would be no drinkable water and without water we cannot live. The effects of the drought are quite visible and we need to make sure we are conserving water when we ca

Subject: Water scarcity and preservation of water.

Sir,

Through your esteemed newspaper, I would like to highlight the scarcity of water and some ways to stop wastage and preserve it. My write-up is enclosed for favour of publication.

Water scarcity: What things can you do about it?

Water is necessary for life. Water is needed for domestic, agricultural and industrial purposes. There is no resource more precious than water. It is also the most misused resource.

Approximately 73% of the earth is water. But fresh and drinkable water is only about 3%. The remaining 70% is undrinkable salty sea and ocean water. So it is imperative to conserve this 3% of water. Every drop is precious. We must not pollute it nor waste it. These is the need of the hour. This is a challenge we cannot afford to ignore. There are different methods to conserve water and deal with water scarcity.

1 Rain water harvesting is the best and most suitable method.

2. Prevent dripping of water from taps

and showers. Leakage from water pipes should be quickly repaired.

3. Use the new low-volume flushtoilets.

4. Adopt water-efficient dishes and clothes washing methods.

5. While brushing your teeth or shaving do not waste water. Turn off the tap when not in use.

6. Bottled water is not regulated and contain harmful synthetic chemicals. Carry your own drinking water in non-toxic containers. The plastic used to bottle water become litters that pollute our rivers and lakes.

7. Efficient irrigation system can prevent water wastage.

8. Industrial waste and hospital waste are dumped in fresh water river and lakes. The water become so polluted that drinking it would result in diseases, unknown diseases with no cure.

9. The roots of trees retain rain water which is then available as underground water.

Conclusion:

A few decades ago environmentalists warned that there will be violent riots amoung neighbours just for a bucket of water. This is happening today in many places. Don't waste water. Stop polluting water. Stop deforestation and plant more trees on a war footing.
