in the old regime at france there existed the clergy , the nobility and the third estate

The clergy was exempted from paying taxes to the being.The nobility were also exempted from paying taxes.They enjoyed special privileges from the society.

The Third Estae consisted of big businessman,artisans,merchants,etc.They alone had  to bear the pressure of paying taxes.
