The cell wall is the tough, usually flexible but sometimes fairly rigid layer that surrounds some types of cell. It is located outside the cell membrane.
Function:
1)Structural support to the cell
2)Protection from external environment. Checks entry of various substances entering and leaving the cell.
3)Maintaining the shape of the cell.
