write about condition of women before independence how are they tortured​

Before independence, Indian males were crushing females through many ways such as

i) Polygamy

ii) Forced Illiteracy

iii)Burning widows in certain parts of the country

and rest of the country, the widows were rejected socially

iv) Child Marriage etc

The surprising fact is that these were approved / sanctioned by Hindu religion!!!. British, who initially accepted these as irreversible and intrinsic part of Indian religions and then they later on helped Indians to abandon these social evils.
