Answer:

Thar is known as the indian desert. It is situated at north west area of india. It is the world's 17th largest desert. Major portion of the desert is situated in India, while 20% is located in Pakistan. The desert is mainly dry with high winds causing the fast sand movement.

The Indian desert extends towards the Western edge of the Aravali ranges.  It is a moving sandy field embraced with sand knolls. This area experiences below 150 mm per year rainfall, which is very low. The arid climate and moderate vegetation are the two most important features of the Indian desert. The evaporation rate in this area is very high thus during the summer season many rivers disappear into the sand. River Luni is one of the important rivers that flow through the Indian desert but due to high evaporation rates it disappears in the sand and does not reach the sea. The Indian desert is popularly identified as the Thar Desert.
