Kingdom Monera-

  • The Monerans are unicellular organisms(Made up of a single cell).
  • It lacks organelles like lysosomes, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, plastids, centrosome, Golgi bodies, etc.
  • The DNA is naked and is not secured by a nuclear membrane.
  • The cell wall is hard and built up of peptidoglycan.
  • They hold 70S ribosomes(Ribosomes help in protein synthesis).
  • The reproduction process is asexual- binary fission or budding. (Conjugation).
  • These are also environmental decomposers.
  • The flagellum works as the locomotory organ.
  • They dispense different methods of nutrition such as parasitic, autotrophic, saprophytic, or heterotrophic.
  • Monera is detected in a humid environment. They can be viewed in snow, hot springs deep oceans, and also as parasites in organisms.

Kingdom Monera is categorized into three sub-kingdoms-  

  1. Archaebacteria  
  2. Eubacteria
  3. Cyanobacteria
