In meiosis, the chromosome or chromosomes duplicate (during interphase) and homologous chromosomes exchange genetic information (chromosomal crossover) during the first division, called meiosis I. The daughter cells divide again in meiosis II, splitting up sister chromatids to form haploid gametes. Two gametes fuse during fertilization, creating a diploid cell with a complete set of paired chromosomes.

HERE UH GO....

MEIOSIS

Meiosis is a cell division. Its purpose is to produce sperm and egg cells, which are reproductive cells. What it does is to cut the number of reproductive cells in half. As we know, body cells have 46 chromosomes in the nucleus. Therefore, meiosis is what splits the 46 into 23 chromosomes for each homologous (similar) pair. The importance of this process is that it constitutes the making of the biggest element for human characteristics.
