The Battle of Plassey was the one major battle that the British were victorious at.
When Alivardi Khan died in 1756, Sirajuddaulah became the nawab of Bengal. The East Indian Company was worried about his power and keen on a puppet ruler who would willing give trade concessions and other privileges. Robert Clive had however managed to secure his support by promising to make Mir Jafar as the Nawab of Bengal after crushing Sirajuddahulah
