Foundation of Ramdaspura or Amritsar:
- The original name of Amritsar is Ramdaspura, the foundation stone of which was laid by Guru Ram Das. The new name was derived from the Amrit Sarovar built by Guru Ram Das. The formation of a man-made pool in the land bought by him initiated the process.
- His invitation to the new town to the other merchants and artisans was successful and people from all over the country started migrating to this very new town. Very soon the town became a center of attraction and business.
- It flourished as a new center for trade and business in the Northern plains. The city flourished mostly during his son period when people started working voluntarily and also financed by donations.
- It soon became the main center of pilgrim for the Sikhs community after Arjan son of Guru Ram Das extended the former area into a temple complex and installed the sculpture of Sikhism inside it.
