  2. Presence of genetic material.

  5. Occurrence of certain enzymes like, neuraminidase, transcriptase and lysozymes in certain viruses.
  6. Infectivity and host specificity.
  7. Viruses can be killed by autoclaving and ultraviolet rays.
  8. They take over biosynthetic machinery of the host cell and produce chemicals required for the multiplication.
  9. Viruses are responsible for a number of infectious diseases like common cold, epidemic influenza, chicken pox, mumps, poliomyelitis, rabies, herpes, AIDS, SARS, etc.
