- In India, the structure of milk production was turned into a collective co-operative pattern, by Dr. Verghese Kurien popularly known as Father of the white revolution.
- Sardhar Vallabhai Patel, who was the Deputy Prime minister of India at that time helped Kurian with this plan and made India, a self-sustaining Dairy producing country.
- Popularly known as operation flood, the movement marked the biggest revolution in the dairy industry. The milk produced by the farmers was collectively managed through ‘Amul’ and price alterations were made to make sure that the producers were profitable.
- This collective then managed to distribute milk and dairy products to nook and corner of the country and export from this industry were also done, thus participating in the world market.
- Started in Gujarat, in the year 1970, Amul changed the life of many farmers and drawn in a huge amount of farmers in the production of Milk.
