An atom may have many possible numbers of orbitals, depending on the quantum atomic model. Based on their size, shape or orientation, these orbitals can be classified. A smaller orbital implies the chances of having an electron near the nucleus are higher.

p orbital - Each p orbital comprises of two segments known as the lobes passing through the nucleus on either side of the plane. The three p orbitals vary in the orientation of the lobes, whereas in terms of size form and energy they are identical.

d orbital - D orbitals are l = 2 wave functions and have an angular distribution that is even more complex than the p orbitals. It is a kind of a  clover leaf distribution.
