The optimum use of water resources through diligent planning and development of resources is known as Water Management. As a result of global climatic changes, there is growing concern of seasonal rains and ground water resources. Under these circumstances, unless water and its resources are managed scientifically the earth, is prone to water scarcities and droughts.
In an arid place like Rajasthan, it is imperative that water management is implemented and carried forward on a war-footing. Water has to be allocated based on priorities, but equitably throughout the State. Rajasthan has one of the largest land areas in the country with a large population of humans and livestock. Unfortunately, the surface water and ground water stocks are very limited (1.1% and 1.7% respectively).
