The smoke that is emitted after generally contains C02 or CO if there is inadequate oxygen.
CO2 is one of the prominent greenhouse gases that most commonly damage the environment.
Although it helps with photosynthesis in plants, it is involved actively in the process of global warming.
CO is an extremely toxic gas which, in high concentration, can be fatal for humans. Although the formation of this is rare, it can occur when the combustion occurs in presence of a nominal account of oxygen.
Along with the above mentiones gases, smoke can also contain ash, soot (carbon), tar, oil, water vapours, dust and other gases with maybe a hundred more chemicals which depends on the the combustion.
The threat to environment and the thinning of the ozone layer are few of the reasons why combustion in non laboratory conditions is discouraged, as it causes severe air pollution.
