Plastids are basically organelles with double membraned.

They are found in plant cells only.

They are usually spherical with average size 4 to 6 um.

A plastid shows two separate regions named as -grana and stroma.

Grana are stacks of membrane-bound, flattened, sacs containing chlorophyll molecules.

These molecules produce food by photosynthesis.

They are called Kitchen of the cell.

They are the main functional chloroplast.

The homogenous matrix in embedding grana are is known as stroma.

Anumbe of photosynthetic enzymes and starch grains are present in the stroma.

AnswEr:

Plastids :

  • These are membrane bound organelle that is present in plant cells only.
  • Pigments present in these plastids helps in giving colours to plants.

Types :

There are three types of Plastids on the basis of pigment present in it.

  • Leucoplast :

#These are colourless.

#Their main function is to store food materials. Like oil, starch and protein.

  • Chromoplasf :

#It contains carotenoid pigment.

#It gives yellow, Red, orange colour to plants.

  • Chloroplast

#It is double membrane bound organelle that contains chlorophyll pigments which helps in giving green colour to plants.
