Answer:

HERE IS YOUR ANSWER

Explanation:

  • THE ABOVE FIGURE SHOWS ANGLE OF CONTACT BETWEEN A LIQUID WHICH COMPLETELY WETS A SOLID E.G.A HIGHLY PURE WATER IN CONTACT WITH CLEAN GLASS
  • THE ANGLE OF CONTACT IN THIS CASE IS ALMOST ZERO.IN THIS CASE THE LIQUID MOLECULES NEAR THE REGION OF CONTACT ARE SO LESS IN NUMBER THAT THE COHESIVE FORCE AQ IS NEGLIGIBLE I.E.AQ=0 AND THE NET ADHESIVE FORCE ITSELF IS THE RESULTANT FORCE I.E.AP=AR
  • THEREFORE THE TANGENT AT IS ALONG THE WALL WITHIN THE LIQUID AND THE ANGLE OF CONTACT IS ZERO

The angle of contact is zero when liquid completely wets solid.

The Surface Tension is force per unit length acting per unit length at right angles to an imaginary line drawn on the free surface of the liquid.

  • The angle of contact is defined as, when liquid is in contact with a solid, the angle between the tangent drawn to the free surface of the liquid and the surface of the solid at the point of contact measured inside the liquid.
  • This angle of contact is constant for solid-liquid pairs.
  • There are different cases of liquid _ solid interaction.

1)when liquid partially wets so :then angle of contact is acute.

             e.g.: kerosene-glass.

2)when liquid does not wet solid: angle of contact is obtuse.

             e.g.: Mercury- glass.

3)If the angle of contact is zero, then only gravitational force acts   vertically downwards on the molecule, & liquid surface in contact with the solid is normal.

            e.g.: pure water-clean glass.

hence, the angle of contact is zero when liquid completely wets solid.
