Answer:

In summary, yeast is a single-celled fungus that uses cellular respiration, which converts glucose and oxygen into carbon dioxide and ATP. ... Fermentation is anaerobic respiration and happens without oxygen. Glucose is converted to two ATP, ethanol, and carbon dioxide

Yeast Anaerobic Respiration

AIM: To demonstrate anaerobic respiration in yeast by noting the production of carbon-dioxide.

APPARATUS:

1. Kuhne's fermentation tube having 10% sucrose/glucose solution, and some amount of Baker’s yeast/suspension of yeast cells.

2. Crystal of potassium hydroxide( KOH) is introduced in the later part of the experiment.

  • As a result of fermentation, carbon dioxide is produced and so the level in the tube falls. Also, ethanol is produced so an alcoholic smell can be obtained.

  • Potassium hydroxide is introduced to absorb the gas so that the level of solution in the tube rises again.
