sound needs medium for its propagation It can travel through a solid a liquid and a gas . when an object vibrate in air, it disturb the air particles sourrounding it and cause them to vibrate . the particles present in solids and liquids also vibrate in a similar way . sound can not propagate through a vacuum because it does not contain any particles to pass on the vibration
