Activity :

Take a small iron nail, a coal piece, a piece of thick aluminium wire and a pencil lead. Beat the iron nail with a hammer in any direction Hit the aluminium wire with the hammer too (hard enough to change its shape) . Repeat the same kind of experiment on the coal piece and pencil lead and Record your observations

Observation : ( do it in table form )

Iron nail : Flattens

Coal piece : Breaks into pieces

Aluminium wire : Flattens

Pencil lead : Breaks into pieces

Conclusion : This activity shows that iron and aluminium are malleable while coal piece and pencil lead are brittle. Thus, metals are malleable and non-metals are non-malleable in nature
