the above picture can be used as a reference for the the following experiment.....
Aim:
to show that light travels in rectilinear way that is in a straight line.
Materials :
a bent iron rod, a straight iron rod, two candles.
Procedure:
- keep two candle side by side
- keep the bent iron rod in a straight manner which would make the observer see the candle
- Keep the straight iron rod in the straight Manner so that the observer would be able to see the candle.
- observe through the rod and try to see the candle flame.
Observation:
the observer would not be able to see the candle flame in in the case of the band iron rod but would be able to see it in the case of straight iron rod.
Conclusion :
thus proved that light can only travel in a straight line and this property is known as rectilinear propagation of light
