Stomata are small mouth like openings present on the surface of a leaf carry out gaseous exchange.

These minute openings are also surrounded y two bean like structures called Guard cells. Guard cells protect stomata and control the opening and closing of stomata.

Stomata are open during day time in the presence of sunlight and closes at night. Their number varies depending upon the type of plant.

To observe them, take a thin layer of epidermis of leaf and put it under the microscope to observe stomata cells.
