Many students tend to equate school with boredom, but they are so wrong. Did you know that you can control how fun school is for you?

Yes, school can be fun, but it will take a bit of effort from you. After practicing the tips you'll find here in this article, school will become more and more enjoyable for you and worth your while.

Here you can learn how to enjoy school, how to earn good grades, how to join a sport, and how to join a school club.

How to Enjoy School and Make It Interesting

School is a place to learn and grow as a person. From preschool or kindergarten, you have been making more and more connections in your brain, learning the very basics and how to combine them into more complex thoughts.

Think about it: in Kindergarten, you learned your letters and the sounds they make. Now, without much thought at all, you can recognize those letters and combine them to make words or read the words from a book. You may not realize it then or even now, but your brain is completing some really complicated processes just for you to read and write!

School helps you to do that, and to condition your brain to complete many, many other tasks as you mature. But how do you make that all interesting?

Here are some helpful tips to enjoy school:

Attend school on a regular basis. It is vital that you attend school every day. Each day of learning may build upon the next, and missing classes causes you to fall behind and add more work to your workload. Of course there may be instances when you need to miss school, such as for an illness, but try to be there as much as possible.

Be prepared. Too many students arrive to school unprepared. Each night, pack your school bag, a lunch (or money if you buy it at school), prepare your outfit, and go to bed at a decent time. Doing all of this the night before prevents you from rushing around the next morning, forgetting things (like homework...) as you go.

Get enough rest. As already mentioned, try to go to bed at a decent hour. By 'decent' I mean any hour that will not leave you tired the next morning when you need to get up early. As a teenager, you may need up to nine hours of sleep each night to feel rested. If you get up at 6 am to go to school, you should be in bed by at least 9 or 10 pm. Save staying up late for the weekends or holidays when you don't need to get up so early the next morning.

Eat a healthy breakfast. Having a doughnut or skipping breakfast altogether are not healthy options when you need energy to get you through the first few hours of school before lunchtime. A bowl of cereal with some milk or some toast with a bowl of fruit will provide you with more energy, which will in turn help you to concentrate better during the early morning hours.

Take classes that interest you, and make all others work for you. You may not be able to choose your core classes, i.e. English, math, or science, but you will be able to choose your electives. Electives may include Home Economics, Music, Foreign Languages, Photography, etc. Choose the classes that interest you or you think may be helpful to you when deciding on a career. As for the others, the core classes, that you must take, make them work for you. You may not be interested in the idea of writing an essay in English about a piece of literature, but it can become your opportunity to share your individual thoughts and ideas using language. You may not find interest in the equation to find 'x' in Algebra, but learning the steps and following them helps you solve every day problems in the future. The skills you learn by completing tasks such as that prepare you for more complex tasks when you become an adult.

Participate in class. A sure way to remain bored in class is to sit at your desk and stare at the desk as the teacher presents a lesson. Want to make it interesting and make time fly by? Participate! Sure, most students think participating in class is only raising your hand to answer a question, but there's so much more you can do. Even if you're not required to do so, take notes as the lesson is being presented, writing down what you think is important to remember. Become an active listener by watching the teacher and following him/her with your eyes. Answer questions, even if you think you're wrong. Ask questions if you're not sure what's going on. Highlight important information on worksheets. Be a leader in group discussions or activities. Make connections between what you learn in class and what you do in every day life. Basically, the more you do, the more you can learn and the more interesting the class becomes.
