India is bounty laden with a number of rivers flowing through it.
Even though, the Earth is covered by 70% water, most of it are from the sea.
The freshwater sources make up for 2.5 percent, out of which only 1 percent is accessible.
Rivers make up most of these accessible sources and thus have been exploited since civilizations came into existence.
In the recent centuries, they have been subjected to severe pollution by several sources.
Wastes from industries and sewage waste from houses are being dumped into the rivers without being pre-treated.
Such acts releases a lot of ""toxic substances"" into the rivers which affects its ecosystem.
